RIPLEY AND HEANOR NEWS 7TH JUNE 1918 CODNOR GUNNER KILLED Gunner Jno Graney R.G.A. was killed in action in France on the 13th May, after having served two years fifteen months of this in France. Mrs Graney (Codnor) received an official communication to that effect on the 30th May, and a letter from his battery Major just a week previous who said: Dear Mrs Graney I am sorry to have to tell you that your son was killed instantaneously by a shell on the 13th of this month (May) you have my heartfelt sympathy and that indeed of the whole battery he was buried in a cemetery by a chaplain along side of another man who was killed by the same shell. I feel the loss of him and the other man, Tydsley very much indeed as they are two of the battery that came out with me, of which not very many are now with me
