RIPLEY AND HEANOR NEWS 10TH NOVEMBER 1916 CODNOR FUSILIER KILLED Much sympathy is felt for Mr James and Mrs Searson of Glasshouse Hill Codnor, in the death from wounds received in action of their son Lance Corpl Edwin Searson of the Lancs. Fusiliers. He enlisted in May last in the Sherwoods, was transferred to the Staffs whilst in training, and on reaching France in July was transferred to the Lancs. Fusiliers. In his last letter home, dated October 20th, he intimated that he had been in action and had a hot time, and the next intimation received was regard to him was that he was in hospital with a serious wound in his left thigh from shrapnel. Official information was received from the war office of his death on Friday last, and this was followed by a letter from the sister at the hospital sympathising with the distressed parents. Prior to enlisting Searson worked at Haslan's Pit, and prior to that at Denby Pottery the other son, James who is older and who enlisted along with young Shawcroft, of Peasehill who was reported killed on September 13th, has been discharged after doing "his bit" RIPLEY AND HEANOR NEWS 17TH NOVEMBER 1916 LCE-CORPL, EDWIN SEARSON CODNOR LANCS FUSILIERS Who a week ago we reported to have died of wounds received in action. He was the younger of two sons of Mr James and Mrs Searson, of Glasshouse Hill Codnor. In a letter dated November 2nd from the sister at the Australian General hospital, France, she conveys the news that the lance Corporal passed away in his sleep on October 30th, and was buried on November 1st with full military honours in the Cemetery St Sever, Ronen.
